Abstract: We present an exact solution to the large N limit of the six-vertex model with partial domain wall boundary conditions in the ferroelectric phase. The solution consists of three steps. In the first step we derive a formula for the partition function involving the determinant of a matrix of mixed Vandermonde/Hankel type. In the second step the Vandermonde/Hankel determinant is reduced to a discrete log-gas partition function with a non-polynomial interaction. In the third step we obtain an asymptotic formula for the discrete log-gas partition function via the Riemann-Hilbert approach.
