Abstract: This talk provides background for the 1 p.m. topology seminar. We will discuss the construction of Khovanov-Seidel (and indicate how it is related both to the Burau representation and the U_q(sl_2) Reshetikhin-Turaev invariant) and define sutured annular Khovanov homology. We will probably conclude with a few words about Hochschild homology and it’s relation to these invariants.
