Abstract:
Models of a single quantum impurity interacting with a gapless continuum of delocalized excitations play an important role in condensed matter physics. The universal low energy properties of such models can
quite generally be studied using boundary conformal field theory. This has led to non-trivial exact results for certain models such as the multi-channel Kondo problem but many physical models remain unsolved. I will give an overview of this subject.
