Abstract:

Kapustin and Witten have explained some landmark results and conjectures relating the geometry and representations of Langlands dual pairs of Lie groups in terms of a duality of 4-dimensional gauge theories. Less known is the appearance of Langlands duality in 2-dimensional gauge theory, although some consequences of this had already been gleaned in the physics literature. In this lecture, I will give the so-called mirror description of a 2-dimensional gauge theory — specifically, gauged Gromov-Witten theory gauged by a compact Lie group — in terms of the Langlands dual group.
