Della Pietra Lecture Series: Local High School Opportunity

I am neither clever nor especially gifted. I am only very, very curious.

– Albert Einstein

The SGGP is offering a great opportunity for the local High Schools on Long Island to get involved with this exceptional event. The panel participants are all pioneers in their field and are coming together for this special discussion. They are strong advocates of research, education, and diversity.

In order to help further research, education, and general interest in the fields of Mathematics and Science, we need your help. The younger generations are the ones that will help make a difference in the future!

We would like students that are currently enrolled in mathematics and science courses at local high schools to think about how science has impacted them. We encourage each student to research the panelists and their work, speak to teachers, and start a conversation of how science can bring about change and curiosity.

We ask that each school select three (3) questions from its students to submit for this event. The question can be directed at the panel in general or at a specific participant.

Each high school will submit the form (3 submissions per school) to us here by April 5, 2022:

SCGP Faculty will select three (3) finalists from different High Schools. Finalists will be notified by email the week before April 12, 2022. The finalists will receive the following for their participation:

  • a $100 prize
  • guest seating at the April 12, 2022 event
  • the opportunity to ask the selected question live to the panel
  • name, high school, and future goals printed in the event program

This opportunity is for educational purposes only. We are committed to academic freedom and keeping science open to all individuals. We encourage anyone interested in attending to apply, regardless of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, age, pregnancy, immigration status, veteran status, or any other aspect of identity.  All participants will be treated with dignity and respect, and discrimination or harassment of any form will not be tolerated.
