Exhibit Proposals

Please check back for proposal deadline dates.

The Simons Center for Geometry and Physics is a research center devoted to furthering fundamental knowledge in geometry and in theoretical physics, especially knowledge at the interface of these two disciplines. The SCGP’s academic and scientific activities have the explicit aim of bringing scholars from different fields and backgrounds together to work collaboratively on the most exciting and complex questions in these fields.

The Simons Center Art Program has the complementary mission of enriching the intellectual lives of the Center’s members and visitors, and of establishing the Center as a venue for artistic science-inspired productions and events of interest and benefit to the entire Stony Brook University campus and local/regional community.

The SCGP Art Program Director and Curator reviews all proposals; proposals that strongly link the arts to geometry or physics in particular and the sciences in general are strongly preferred. Proposals that include lectures, concerts or other outreach activity are also highly encouraged.

Guidelines:

Proposals should be no more than five (5) pages and include the following:

  • Title of Exhibition
  • Statement of Artistic and Scientific Merit (no more than 1000 words including a description of the exhibition)
  • List of artworks. You must include color photography of featured works, or video links.
  • Short bios of artists
  • List of potential speakers and lecture topics or other outreach event(s)
  • Detailed description of all audio visual or technical requirements
  • Budget

Rules:

  1. Potential artists and/or speakers must be contacted prior to submission of proposal to confirm that they are in fact interested and available for the exhibition.
  2. The proposer is responsible for exhibition installation and de-installation of the gallery. If work is to be outsourced this must be accounted for in the budget.
  3. Budget breakdown must include specific categories for transportation and installation of artwork (including all shipping costs), artist and gallery fees, printing of exhibition signage, posters and art books, as well as speaker stipends and travel reimbursement. Organizers will be responsible for all costs that exceed the maximum budget. *Note the SCGP funds two public receptions per exhibition and covers the cost of insuring the artwork; all other costs must come from the exhibition budget.
  4. Proposer is responsible for securing all loan agreements to insure the artwork (forms will be provided by the SCGP Art Program).
  5. Proposer is responsible for all design of exhibition wall signs or description cards.
  6. Proposer is responsible for providing a small catalog/booklet detailing the work with a short description of the exhibition and individual works of art.
