String Theory for Mathematicians 5/14/12 – 5/18/12

“In this workshop, we will bring algebraic geometers and string theorists together to discuss these topics and identify new topics of common interest.  We particularly hope to attract algebraic geometers who have not actively worked on string-related topics before, and to this end the workshop will include a series of introductory lectures for mathematicians, one per day, on the general  structure of string compactification and physics methods (effective field theory), how singularities appear in string theory, and a cultural lecture on how physicists hope to someday test these ideas with experiment.

More advanced topics might include an introduction to F-theory and F-theory based phenomenology, an exploration of current research on codim 2 (and higher) singularities, a survey of the new N=2 dualities and related integrable systems, physics interpretation of wall crossing formulas, new approaches to TQFTs, and symmetry and singularities in the Geometric Langlands program.”
