Spring School on Geometric Aspects of General Relativity March 22 – 25, 2018

Organized by: Demetre Kazaras, Marcus Khuri and Christina Sormani

Graduate students (and postdocs) with background in Riemannian Geometry are invited to attend this four day school introducing geometric aspects of Mathematical General Relativity. There will be introductory lectures on:

* Asymptotically flat Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature
* ADM mass and the Positive Mass Theorem
* Outermost Minimizing Surfaces and the Penrose Inequality
* Bartnik Mass
* Lorentzian Manifolds and Solving Einstein’s Equations,
* Bondi Mass
* Constraint Equations, Initial Data sets and MOTS
* Constant Mean Curvature Foliations and Center of Mass
* Kerr Black Holes and Angular Momentum

Each topic will be taught independently in a series of 1-2 lectures. For more information about the schedula and topics please visit the grad workshop webpage

We intend to cover all topics needed for those who wish to attend the SCGP Workshop on Mass in General Relativity the following week. We encourage but do not require everyone to stay through Monday March 26 as there will be giving a public lecture by Shing-Tung Yau at SCGP and other important lectures on Mass in GR on that date.

Thursday March 22: Spring School
2-3pm Dan Lee (Riemannian Schwarzschild space, Hawking Mass and ADM mass, and Examples)
3:30-4:30 pm Demetre Kazaras (Minimal Surfaces in Scalar ge 0, basic Schoen-Yau results)
5-6pm Beatrice Bonga (Spacetimes, Special Relativity including Minkowski space, light cones, physical intuition)

Friday March 23: Spring School
10-11am: Beatrice Bonga (Einstein’s Equations and General Relativity including Schwarzschild spacetime)
11:30-12:30: Henri Roesch (Solving Einstein’s Equations)
2-3pm: Ye Sle Cha (Initial Data Sets and Solving Constraint Equations)
3:30-4:30: Dan Lee (Almost Rigidity of PMT in Rot Sym)
5-6pm: Questions and Answers

Saturday March 24: Spring School
10-11 am: Christos Mantoulidis (3D Schoen-Yau Positive Mass Theorem)
11:30-12:30: Alessandro Carlotto (MOTS and Black Holes)
2-3pm: Ye Sle Cha (Angular Momentum in Initial Data Sets)
3:30-4:30 pm: Pengzi Miao (Bartnik Mass)
5-6pm: Henri Rosch (Bondi Mass)

Sunday March 25: Spring School

11:30-12:30: Alessandro Carlotto (Spacetime Positive Mass Theorems)
