Abstract: One might hope that the absolute and relative GW-invariants with the basic contact vector are the same whenever the symplectic divisor contains no curves. I will explain why this hope usually pans out and illustrate with example the 3 cases when it does not. The first talk will focus on the basic geometric picture. A connection with the symplectic sum formula will be described in the second talk, though this is not the most efficient way of approaching this if one is concerned only about numerical invariants.
