Abstract: This is an elementary introduction for non-specialists. Liouville gravity. KPZ-DDK relations. Planar graphs and discretized surfaces embedded in D dimensions. Critical behaviour: baby universes and the D=1 barrier. Solvable models on planar graphs: Ising, SAW, loop gas, RSOS. Mapping to large-N matrix models. Boundaries and boundary correlations.
