Fuzzy Sphere Meets Bootstrap, November 6-8, 2023

Organized by Yin-Chen He, Zohar Komargodski, Leonardo Rastelli, and Slava Rychkov

Conformal field theories (CFTs) represent a vital class of quantum field theories with wide-ranging applications, from quantum gravity to critical phenomena in both classical and quantum matter. CFTs in 3D and higher dimensions are strongly interacting, thus requiring the employment of non-perturbative tools. One such non-perturbative tool, the conformal bootstrap, has been extensively studied over the last 15 years, and plays a pivotal role in exploring the realm of CFTs. In the past year, a powerful approach termed “fuzzy sphere regularization” has come to the fore. This method studies 2+1D quantum phase transitions on the spherical geometry using the fuzzy (non-commutative) sphere. Fuzzy sphere regularization not only demonstrates exceptional effectiveness in studying 3D CFTs but also forges compelling connections between CFTs, quantum Hall physics in condensed matter, and non-commutative geometry in mathematics. The meeting will focus on the timely topic of fuzzy sphere regularization and will gather experts in condensed matter theory and high-energy theory to discuss both the fuzzy sphere and the bootstrap, as well as their applications in CFTs.
