Call for Proposals –Art & Outreach Gallery Exhibitions and Activities/Events
Deadline: January 15, 2025, before midnight

The SCGP invites proposals for the following two categories, submission form below:
I. Art Exhibitions approximately 8-10 weeks long to take place 2024 and 2025. Total funding level $6,000 to $8,000. A curatorial fee (optional) is not to exceed $1,500. This fee is not additional and would be included in the total funding awarded to recipient(s).
Proposals that strongly link the arts to mathematical geometry or physics, and to a lesser extent the sciences in general, are preferred.
II. Activities and Events that reflect upon the mission of the Center, including special events and symposiums. Funding level $750 to $2,500. Proposals that include lectures, one-day symposiums, or other outreach activities are preferred.

1. Application
To be submitted in one PDF no larger than 10MB. Work samples (if applicable) are submitted separately.
•   Curator/Organizer(s). Name, affiliation, contact information.
•   Indicate if the proposal is for I. Art Exhibition or II. Activities/Events
•   Proposal. One (1) page statement/narrative explaining the project’s objective, including the
scientific merit of the project and link to the SCGP.
Include link(s) to website/social media if applicable.
•   Curriculum vitae. CV not to exceed three (3) pages.
•   Budget. Preliminary budget. A more comprehensive budget to be provided if proposal is accepted.

2. Work Samples (if applicable)
You may include up to ten (10) images and/or three (3) videos. Images should be saved as .jpeg or .png, 1000px maximum in any direction. Videos should be an excerpt of no longer than 2 minutes each.

At the time of application, all applicants:
Must be at least twenty-one years old
Cannot be enrolled in a full-time degree-granting program or its equivalent

Responsibilities
The curator or organizer is responsible for all aspects of the exhibition or event, including all graphics, labels, and promotional material.
If accepted, applicant may be requested to submit a more thorough application for the exhibits or activities/event to take place in 2024 and 2025. A timeline is required once proposal is accepted. Receipts and documentation for all expenditures must be submitted with a final resolved budget. A list of resources will be provided as well. The SCGP funds one public reception per exhibition. All art is fully insured while on exhibit in the gallery and in transport. All other expenditures must come from the exhibition budget and submitted in an excel form. The curator or organizer will provide their own tech support and will be responsible for installation and deinstallation.

The Simons Center for Geometry and Physics (SCGP) is a research center devoted to furthering fundamental knowledge in geometry and in theoretical physics.

The SCGP has the complementary mission of enriching the intellectual lives of the Center’s members and visitors with artistic science-inspired exhibitions and creative events for discovery and knowledge to inspire the entire Stony Brook University campus and local/regional community.

The 700 sq ft Simons Center Gallery is located in the main lobby of the SCGP. The hours are Monday-Friday, 10:00 am-4:00 pm. SCGP interns are in attendance at the reception desk in front of the gallery.
